Addressing health and wellness in the school environment has become increasingly important in recent years, not just for students, but for staff, as well. Adult and childhood overweight and obesity rates continue to rise. Though parents are primary role models for kids at home, children spend a great deal of their time at school and as a result schools have been identified as places for motivating students to lead healthy lifestyles. Teachers have a unique opportunity to show students how to adopt and maintain healthy behaviors. However, it is difficult for teachers who lack good health to serve as healthy role models for their students.
Now is the time for schools to consider what can be done to promote healthy lifestyles for students and begin to think about implementing worksite wellness programming for staff. Click on For Students or For Staff for related information and resources.
