The nutrition education modules suggest the use of additional materials for visual aids and incentives. Check nutrition and health education catalogs and on-line resources for posters, food models (paper and three-dimensional models), puzzles, placemats, children's books, felt board cut-outs, bulletin board supplies, balloons, and stickers with a vegetable theme. These resources will add the vibrant colors of vegetables to the nutrition education environment and reinforce the nutrition education messages.
Several modules suggest giving parents/caretakers small incentive gifts to reinforce the nutrition education message or to reward them for returning one of the self-monitoring tools. Select small kitchen utensils that can be used to prepare vegetables including vegetable peelers, cutting boards, steamer baskets, colanders and other items. These utensils can be purchased inexpensively at your local discount store.
