Kirkwood Community College Examination Site - Closure Notice
Kirkwood Community College examination sites will be closed during the following dates:
- November 26-28
- December 24-January 2
In addition, during December 9th-16th, due to high volume of expected testing appointments availability may be limited.
Please note closure dates and availability at other locations may vary.
If your examination eligibility expires in November or December 2014, please contact Kirkwood Community College at 319-398-7768 or 319-398-5529 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (Central time), Monday through Friday to register for your examination and ensure your testing appointment! Please have your Visa, MasterCard or Discover information available and an active email account.
The Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board is now accepting examination applications for:
- Master & Journeyperson Plumbing
- Master & Journeyperson Hydronics
- Master & Journeyperson HVAC/Refrigeration
- Master & Journeyperson Mechanical
- Journeyperson Sheet Metal
As of July 1, 2014 Kirkwood Community College is the examination provider.In order to be eligible to sit for an examination, an applicant must first complete a state of Iowa Examination Candidate Application. A fee of $35.00 per discipline examination must accompany the Board application.

For candidates with a valid eligibility issued prior to July 1, 2014, the eligibility information will be provided to Kirkwood Community College and honored through the period listed on their examination acceptance registration letter. Any candidates who apply on or after July 1, 2014 will automatically be registered with the Kirkwood Community College.
If you are currently registered for an examination with the Board and wish to sit for the new sheet metal or mechanical examinations you will need to reapply to the Board Office prior to registering with Kirkwood.
Once an application is received and approved a test acceptance registration letter from the Iowa Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board Office will be issued. After successfully passing an examination you will need to apply to the Board Office for Post-Examination Licensure.
