The Iowa Epilepsy Treatment and Education Task Force

The Task Force

The legislation charged the Iowa Department of Public Health with the forming of the task force consisting of patients, physicians, and pharmacists within sixty days of the effective date of the Act. The task force shall provide education and information and assess the impact on people with epilepsy of generically equivalent drug product selection of antiepileptic drugs for the treatment of epileptic seizures.

According to the legislation, the task force membership consists of the following members, appointed by the specified organizations:

  • Three patients or patient representatives appointed by the Epilepsy Foundation of Iowa
  • Three physicians appointed by the Iowa Medical Society and the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association
  • Three pharmacists appointed by the Iowa Pharmacy Association in collaboration with the Iowa Retail Federation.

Task Force Facilitation

The Iowa Department of Public Health contracts with the Epilepsy Foundation of North Central Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska for facilitation of the task force.

Report and Recommendations

House File 322 requires the Epilepsy Education and Treatment Task Force to submit a report of its activities, findings, and any recommendations to the General Assembly by January 1, 2013.

Education for Providers, Patients and Pharmacists

Dissolution of Task Force

The Epilepsy Education and Treatment Task Force shall be dissolved on January 1, 2013.
